One thing you’ll ask if you’re a first time CBD user is “What’s the right dosage?” – the answer is “it depends on a few factors”. We’ll look at those below so you can get an idea of what CBD dosage to take when you’re first starting out.

How Long Does it Take for CBD to Start Working? How Long Does it Last?

If you’re trying out CBD hemp for the first time, it’s a good idea to sample several different methods so you can see what works best for you. Everybody’s different! Depending on how you’re administering the CBD – through a tincture, topicals, smoking, vaping, etc., – it can take longer or shorter to take effect and that effect can last for varying lengths of time.

A tincture is one of the most popular ways of ingesting CBD in your system. With a tincture, you may feel the effects within a half-hour and expect them to last between 4 and 6 hours.

With our water-soluble tinctures you may feel the effects in as little as 5-10 minutes! Water-soluble tinctures are one of the faster-acting methods of taking CBD.

Eating CBD, on the other hand, means that your body needs time to digest it and then process it in the liver. This can take about an hour. The tradeoff though is that the effects might last longer, perhaps from 6 to 8 hours.

Topicals, which are applied directly to the skin, bypass the digestive system, and give the CBD a straight path to the bloodstream so the effects are felt rapidly, within about 15-20 minutes.

Smoking cannabis is the fastest way to feel its effects – you’ll feel the results almost immediately, but they won’t last as long.

As you can see, there are pros and cons to each method and it may take some experimentation to see which you prefer.

What’s the Right Dose for a First Time User?

It’s a good idea to start with a lower dose and then work your way up. A good starting dose would be ~25mg. You can increase by 10mg after a week and increase week by week if needed. CBD is completely safe to take, but different doses can affect people differently based on factors such as weight – if you’re on the lighter side, you may want to start with less, or more if you’re heavier. Everyone also has a different CBD tolerance, which is why it’s important to only increase your dosage slowly and carefully.

To check the dosage, look at the box of the product you’re using. If you’re using a dropper, the box will tell you how much CBD is in each drop, for example. Gummies or other edibles should have the same information.
